[HIWI] 6G ISAC Channel Modelling

In the context of ongoing research on integrating communication and sensing into a unified waveform (Integrated Sensing and Communication, ISAC), channel modeling is becoming increasingly important for predicting the behavior of such systems. Standardization bodies such as 3GPP are actively working on developing and refining models in this area.

As part of this work, a measurement scenario will be reconstructed within an ISAC modeling framework and subsequently validated against existing measurement data. The results will be analyzed and shared with partners. Based on these findings, an existing clustering algorithm for joint communication and sensing scenarios will be optimized.

Objectives of this work

  • Optimization of existing scenarios to better align simulation and measurement setups
  • Documentation and preparation of results for further use
  • Investigation of the ISAC clustering thresholding algorithm

Research Questions

  • What deviations exist between simulation and measurement, and what are their underlying origins?
  • How well can real ISAC measurement scenarios be represented and generalized using channel models?
  • Which channel characteristics are relevant for communication, and which are relevant for sensing (e.g., carrier, delay, Doppler, AoA, etc.)?
  • How suitable are clustering algorithms for describing ISAC scenarios?

  2. Alignment and comparison of measurement and simulation results
  3. Investigation of advanced clustering algorithms
