Institute for Smart Electronics and Systems<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Institute for Smart Electronics and Systems was created in 2024 through a merger of the institute of Technical Electronics (LTE) and the institute of Electrical Smart City Systems (ESCS).
LITES works on the majority of its research topics as part of third-party funded projects. These are either public funded (DFG, EU, BMBF, BMWi, Bavaria, etc.) or directly commissioned by industry. LITES cooperates with internationally active companies and research institutes in the semiconductor, automotive, medical technology, automation and communications industries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cooperations<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

LITES is directly involved in major projects in the region such as the Medical Technology Cluster of Excellence (Medical Valley), Energiecampus N\u00fcrnberg (EnCN) and the Leistungszentrum Elektroniksysteme (LZE).
It is also a member of the Bavarian Chips Alliance and the Chip Design Germany.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The LITES is involved in a large number of engineering degree programs at FAU, such as EEI, IuK, CME, MECH, MT, WING, both at Bachelor’s and Master’s level. Due to its broad range of topics, the institute enjoys a large influx of students from a wide variety of disciplines.
Thanks to its network with industry and research institutions, LITES also helps to find students for industrial internships and thesis and doctoral students for research stays in Germany and abroad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Renommee<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Thanks to the combination of the two institutes and the successful and lively publication output of the staff at renowned conferences and workshops and a large number of journal articles, which have been honored with various prizes and awards, LITES can point to a high level of visibility in the international scientific community.
In terms of the exploitation of research results, the LTE in particular can point to a large number of patents. In addition, spin-offs have been created, such as eesy-ic GmbH, which deals with chip design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Equipment<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

LITES has modern and extensive equipment in the field of design, simulation, realization and measurement technology of electronic circuits and systems up to 320 GHz as well as algorithm implementation; it operates high technology with its partners in industry and non-university research institutes. Young scientists and students find excellent working environments at the chair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
