This year, LITES has once again actively supported FAU’s “Girls and Technology” internship.<\/p>\n

The “Girls and Technology” internship offers young girls aged twelve to eighteen the opportunity to dive into the fascinating world of technology and conduct exciting experiments at various departments over the course of a week.
\nThis year’s experiments at LITES were themed “We Build a USB Speaker.” Almost 30 girls had the chance, in three groups, to build their own turtle-shaped speakers, guided by Jasmin Gabsteiger (staff member), Thomas Kurin (guest researcher), student assistants Haniyeh and Sajjad, along with the support of Nils Arneth (staff member). They soldered resistors, capacitors, and speakers, allowing each participant to proudly take home her own self-built, functioning USB speaker at the end of the experiment. The speaker enables the direct playback of music from a smartphone \u2013 a highlight for everyone!<\/p>\n

Additionally, Katharina Stich and Eva Russwurm (both staff members) served as “role models” for women in Science-, Technology-, Engineering-, and Mathematics-professions, answering the students’ questions. The girls wanted to know, among other things, how it feels to study as a woman among many men and how one can find out if they are suited for working in these fields.
\nWe are already looking forward to the next internship, which takes place every year during the last week of the summer holidays, and are excited about the upcoming projects!<\/p>\n
